Types of Pallets

We offer a variety of wooden pallets to meet the diverse shipping and packing requirements of our customers in Atlantic Canada. Our pallets are available in different sizes and configurations, each designed to meet specific load capacity and handling requirements.

Some of our most popular pallet types include:

2-way pallets are designed with openings or notches on only two sides, which allow forklifts or pallet jacks to access and lift the pallet from those sides only.

They are commonly used for storage and transportation of goods within warehouses and other industrial settings where the pallets will not need to be moved from all four sides.

While 2-way pallets may not offer as much accessibility as 4-way pallets, they are often more cost-effective and can be a suitable option for certain applications where limited accessibility is not a major concern.

2-way heavy duty pallets are similar to 2-way pallets in that they have openings at both ends, but they are constructed with thicker and stronger materials such as full 1″ or greater boards and bottom deck boards.

This allows the pallet to withstand heavier loads and rough handling during transportation and storage. They are designed to be lifted and moved using a forklift or pallet jack, but they can also be stacked for efficient use of space.

2-way heavy duty pallets are ideal for industries that require frequent movement of heavy goods, such as automotive, construction, and manufacturing.

4-way pallets are a type of pallet with openings or notches at both ends and both sides, which allows for easy access and handling with a forklift or pallet jack from any direction. This makes them highly versatile and ideal for use in warehouse and industrial settings where quick and easy loading and unloading is essential.

4-way pallets are available in both softwood and hardwood materials, and can be custom-made in various sizes to meet specific customer needs. They are widely used for transporting and storing a wide range of goods, including food and beverage products, pharmaceuticals, and industrial equipment.

A 4-way heavy duty pallet is a type of pallet that has openings at both ends and sides and is designed to withstand heavier loads than a standard 4-way pallet. It is typically constructed with full 1″ or greater boards and bottom deck boards, making it more durable and sturdy.

The design of the 4-way openings allows for easy access and handling by forklifts or pallet jacks from any direction, making it ideal for heavy industrial applications.

The 4-way heavy duty pallet is a versatile and reliable solution for the transportation and storage of heavy loads, and is commonly used in industries such as automotive, manufacturing, and construction.

A 2-way skid is a type of pallet that has openings only at both ends, and is designed to be handled by a forklift or pallet jack. This type of pallet is typically used for lighter loads and is often referred to as a skid due to its design.

Unlike other pallet types, the 2-way skid does not have bottom deck boards, which can make it less stable than other pallets. However, it is still a cost-effective option for many businesses, especially those that do not require heavy-duty pallets for their products.

A single-use pallet, as the name suggests, is designed for one-time use only. These pallets are typically made from low-grade materials and are intended to be disposed of after use. They are usually used for short-term storage or shipping needs and are not built to withstand heavy loads or extended periods of use.

Single-use pallets are a cost-effective option for businesses that have a limited need for pallets and do not require the durability and strength of a reusable pallet.

It is important to note that these pallets are not environmentally sustainable and can contribute to waste and pollution if not disposed of properly.

Reversible pallets are a type of pallet that can be used in either direction, offering flexibility in how they can be loaded and transported.

These pallets have identical top and bottom decks, allowing them to be flipped over and used either way. This design makes them ideal for certain applications, such as in closed-loop systems where the pallets are returned to the same location after use.

Reversible pallets can come in various sizes and load capacities.

A block pallet is a type of pallet that has blocks between the pallet decks or beneath the top deck to support the load. These blocks provide additional support and strength to the pallet, making it ideal for carrying heavy loads.

Block pallets are commonly used in industries such as food and beverage, pharmaceuticals, and automotive. They are also preferred for their durability and ease of handling by forklifts and pallet jacks.

Block pallets come in various sizes and designs.

Hardwood pallets are a type of pallet that is constructed from higher density deciduous woods such as oak or maple.

Hardwood pallets are considerably heavier and have better load capacity than softwood pallets. This makes them ideal for heavy-duty applications, such as transporting large or heavy items.

However, hardwood pallets are also more expensive than softwood pallets, due to the higher cost of the raw materials and the more labor-intensive manufacturing process. Additionally, hardwood pallets are more difficult to heat-treat for export, which can make them less suitable for international shipping.

Despite their higher cost, hardwood pallets offer several benefits over softwood pallets. They are more durable and longer-lasting, which means they can be reused multiple times before they need to be replaced. They also have a higher resistance to wear and tear, which makes them a better choice for heavy-duty applications.

A softwood pallet is a type of pallet that is constructed from coniferous woods such as spruce, pine, or fir. This wood is a cost-effective material and is commonly used to produce pallets that are intended for single use only.

When designed properly, a softwood pallet can have an excellent load capacity, making it a popular choice for export certified pallets.

Softwood pallets are often used for one-way shipping, where the pallet is used to transport goods from one location to another and is then discarded. This is because softwood pallets are less durable than hardwood pallets and are not designed for repeated use.

Despite their lower cost, softwood pallets can still be designed to have excellent load capacity.

IPPC Heat-Treated Pallets

The International Plant Protection Convention (IPPC) has specific standards for the treatment and certification of wood packaging products.

This standard mandates that wood packaging products are treated using approved methods, such as heat treatment or fumigation, and are marked with an IPPC logo to certify their compliance.

Many countries, including Canada, require IPPC certified pallets for entry into their borders. This standard is crucial to prevent the spread of pests and diseases across borders and protect ecosystems and economies worldwide. If you’re shipping goods internationally, an IPPC certified pallet is undoubtedly the best option.

At Isenor Pallets, we offer IPPC certified heat-treated pallets that comply with these international regulations, providing you with the peace of mind that your products are being shipped safely and responsibly.

Once an IPPC certified pallet has been treated and certified, it never needs to be treated again as long as it retains all its original parts.

Our IPPC certified pallets are durable, high-quality, and designed to withstand the rigours of transportation and storage. By choosing our IPPC certified pallets, you can be confident that you’re making a long-term investment in your wood packaging needs.

Identifying an IPPC certified pallet is easy, thanks to the standardized system of stamps and codes used to certify and track these pallets.

IPPC certified heat treated pallets

IPPC certified pallets will bear a stamp that includes the IPPC logo and a code indicating the origins of the pallet and the methods used to treat it. This code looks like XX-000-YY, with XX representing the country code, 000 showing the license number of the manufacturer, and YY indicating how the wood was treated.

This standardized system ensures that you can identify your IPPC certified pallet at a glance, ensuring compliance with international regulations and peace of mind when shipping your products across borders.

At Isenor Pallets, we take pride in providing you with high-quality IPPC certified heat-treated pallets that comply with international standards. Our pallets are durable, cost-effective, and environmentally responsible, providing you with confidence when shipping your products safely and sustainably across borders.
